An Icelandic father says he has lost custody of his autistic son for opposing his gender reassignment

A distraught father in Iceland says he was stripped of his parental rights after speaking out against his 11-year-old son’s gender reassignment – a case that has drawn international attention, including from billionaire Elon Musk – as he accuses the courts of prioritizing progressive views over a parent’s right to protect their child.

Alexandre Rocha, a French native who has lived in Iceland for 25 years, lost custody of his child’s mother in December and told Fox News Digital he believes the judge ruled against him because he questioned the long-term effects of puberty blockers and hormone therapy.

“It should be a crime,” Rocha said of the medical intervention. “You are abusing children, circumcising a boy, like my child. This must not happen. This is an ideology that has no place for children.”

He argued that his then 10-year-old self – whose worldview was shaped by video games like Minecraft and Roblox – could not understand the lasting effects of sexual redistribution.

“In general, all children [after a separation and autism diagnosis] you’re going to have a mental breakdown,” Rocha said. “Change is a happy place. They feel validated, they like attention… For me, long-term anxiety. Will they still be happy four years from now, or six years, having blockers and having more hormones? Is it really fixing that fundamental – mental challenge or difficulty, whatever they’re dealing with?”

Although her child was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder eight months ago, Rocha said the court and medical experts “slightly overstated” the diagnosis during the trial.

She noted that children on the autism spectrum often struggle to feel “right in their own skin” or “want to be something else,” adding that her child sometimes chooses to be a cat — wearing a cat tail or ears.

However, when he raised those concerns in court, Rocha said an Icelandic endocrinologist “completely dismissed” him under oath, asserting that hormone drugs were “no problem” and refusing to evaluate mental health factors.

Now cut off from medical decision-making, Rocha said she fears what treatment her son may be receiving without her knowledge.

“It is possible that he is being treated with hormones that I don’t know anything about,” he said.

Rocha added that the child’s mother is pushing “stronger ideas than ever,” saying she should use the Advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) program ChatGPT to understand words like “dead name,” which refers to a person’s birth name before changing gender.

“I cannot support this kind of talk. This, for me, is devilish. It is more than love,” he said. “When you talk about a child, you can’t talk about death. It just doesn’t make sense to me.”

Rocha said she was informed in February that the child’s mother had officially changed her son’s name to a female, “which means his ID will clearly say he is a girl.”

The father said he believed that the court’s decision was not about the welfare of his child, but was a joint effort to close the gap.

“To control the parents. To control me,” he said. “It’s calming me down. Giving all the energy to this idea.”

Rocha’s story has drawn international attention and recently caught Musk’s eye.

The Tesla CEO has come out on transgender issues after revealing that his son, Xavier, transitioned to a woman and now goes by the name Vivian Jenna Wilson.

Musk said he was “tricked” into giving permission for Wilson to continue to be barred from puberty, before he “had an understanding of what was going on.”

In response to a post about Rocha’s story on the popular X account @libsoftiktok, Musk said, “The awakened brain virus is affecting even Iceland.”

Rocha said he was “very surprised and honored” that Musk shared his story.

“I think we have the same battle,” he said. “Because at the end of the day, we’re all parents, regardless of borders or nationality.”

Musk did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Politics aside, Rocha said he misses the daily moments with his son, whom he said he hasn’t seen since January.

“I miss story time at night and cooking together,” she said, noting how much she enjoyed sharing Steven Spielberg’s 1990 movies like “Jurassic Park” with her son.

Rocha recently requested a daily fine from the child’s mother for interfering with his court-ordered visitation rights.

The mother denied intentionally withholding visitation, saying the child refused to go because Rocha denied his identity and was not using his new name, according to court documents.

Rocha provided a witness affidavit stating that their last visit went well and that the child appeared happy and secure in his presence.

He recalled that he recently visited where his son said he “missed being with my grandmother and sister.”

“When you don’t know what’s going on on the other side, as a parent, you worry a lot,” Rocha said. “We are slowly drifting apart, and that is the most painful consequence of this.”

Despite pressure to remain silent, Rocha urged other parents to trust their “guts”, speak up and seek professional guidance.

“I came for my child and his future,” he said. “That’s all I care about. I’m campaigning for him, for his future.”

The child’s mother could not immediately be reached by Fox News Digital for comment.
