An influencer who went viral after sharing her budget-friendly wedding has died after welcoming her first child.
According to his report, Kiara Janae Brokenbrough she died while welcoming a son with her husband Joel Brokenbrough on March 30. He was 32 years old.
A GoFundMe launched by Joel’s mother Shaneka Greene shared that Kiara died “suddenly” and “went to her Heavenly home while Baby Jonah entered his earthly home.”
The GoFundMe page also shared an update on baby Jonah’s condition after being born prematurely. (He was originally supposed to arrive in June.)
“She is in the NICU and has begun her long journey to get stronger and healthier every day,” the caption read. “Jonah is a master and a hero and by the grace and POWER of God we know he will amaze the doctors with his daily progress.”
Kiara’s obituary also detailed Jonah’s progress in the intensive care unit.
“Jonah, like his parents, is a fighter,” reads the obituary. “He inspires his family and NICU staff with his remarkable progress.”
The GoFundMe caption also explained the impact Kiara’s death had on her husband Joel.
“Understandably, this tragedy has caused a lot of damage to Joel,” the explanation continued. “He will need support (physical, mental, spiritual, and financial) from his family and friends and the kindness of strangers.”
It added, “As Joel begins this next unimaginable chapter as a single parent, going to the NICU and dealing with the grief of losing his beloved wife (who he loves so much) he needs all the support he can get as he tries to live without her.”
As of Friday, April 24, the GoFundMe has raised more than $104,000 of its $150,000 goal.

Kiara and Joel had been married for four years, after tying the knot in a $500 budget wedding. Kiara’s wedding dress cost $47 and went viral after she detailed how she pulled off a budget-friendly but stylish couple.
“We knew it wouldn’t be wise for us to go into debt for the wedding or spend a lot of money to get married,” Kiara told the Los Angeles Times in April 2022.
He said, “I just saw how, traditionally, how far apart we are and that marriages were something as simple as the meeting of the bride and the groom, bowing to God to live together, and swearing to each other to live together and in front of witnesses.”
