Matlock’s Jason Ritter Explains Final Arrest, Season 3 Changes

Matlock‘s Jason Ritter teased how the hit series will change after the end of season 2 on a dramatic note, which includes a lot of arrests.
On the Thursday, April 23, episode of the hit CBS series, Matty (Kathy Batesand Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) briefly thought all hope was lost when it came to their task of taking down Senior (Beau Bridges). The final part of the two-episode special picks things up when Julian (Ritter) finds a way to get his father to confess his wrongdoing, leading the DOJ to get to Jacobson Moore.
Federal officials eventually arrested Senior and other lawyers who contributed to the WellBrexa document being hidden. Julian ends up injured in the kidnapping and arrested and handcuffed, while Matty and Olympia happily leave the building making plans for their future solving cases together.
“One of the things that has been driving Julian all his life is this push and pull of wanting his father’s approval and thinking that there is some magic money that he can have or some power that can make his father. [like him],” Ritter, 46, said to himself Us Weekly about Julian’s sacrifice. “It’s a very sad thing to chase.”
He continued: “On the other hand, he really hates some aspects of his father’s personality. And from the beginning, we knew that Julian didn’t want to be the kind of father to his children that Senior was to him. One of the things he can’t stand about his father is that he runs away from everything. So will he let him get away with everything to avoid the consequences?”
Ritter was very happy when he saw how far Julian had come as a person.
“He is deciding that accepting the results is the right thing to do because he wants to teach his children to be responsible and apologise,” he said. “He’s making the decision to lose his comfort in the future because it’s the right thing to do — and he wants to pass those lessons on to his kids.”
For the actor, it was fun to be included with “player” in the title, adding, “Part 1 of the finale ends with all being lost, But one of the things in the game that excites people and inspires people is that Matty is underestimated but comes out on top and wins against the big guy. I was really satisfied with the fact that – and the Top one is not only eliminated – and he is not actually eliminated from the top – but he is actually eliminated. It’s very satisfying that I wish that happened in real life but now we can watch it happen on TV and we are happy about it.”
Julian’s fate remained unclear after his arrest, but the actor revealed that the possibilities are endless.
“You can get some amazing lawyers but maybe some of them [season 3] he is in a law firm and the other part of the show is Julian and Senior in prison.” “One of the things I’ve learned this time is that the writers of this show are great and will always find a new and exciting way forward.”
When asked if Julian might make the pivot from law enforcement to become a private investigator, he joked, “I’ll have my own little office with my Venetian blinds and my whiskey. …
Regardless, Ritter is on the edge of his seat about what’s next — especially now that the show will return mid-season so he’ll have more time to introduce a major new storyline outside of the week-to-week cases.
“I know there will be another mystery they have to solve, though [I am not sure] even if it is connected in a strange way,” he said Us. “I know [WellBrexa] the story line is complete. “
Matlock renewed for season 3 and airing on Paramount+.
