Grey’s Anatomy Kills Katie In An Emotional Off-Screen Death

Grey’s AnatomyThe latest episode shocked audiences with a tragic – and unexpected – death.

On the Thursday, March 19, episode of ABC’s hit series, Lucas (Niko Terhoand Simone (Alexis Floyd) were providing Katie (Samantha Marie Ware) for home hospice care after her diagnosis worsened. Lucas and Katie grow closer as they remember what would have happened between them if he hadn’t gotten sick.

Simone, at the same time, was worried about Lucas, who was more concerned with keeping Katie alive than making sure she wasn’t suffering anymore. After Simone hid the cans from Lucas, she rushed to the hospital to retrieve them. When he returned, Katie was dead.

Lucas eventually blamed Simone for preventing him from being there for Katie in her final moments. The characters first crossed paths at the beginning of the season when Katie was in a car accident while undergoing treatment for stomach cancer. Katie had been given a stage II diagnosis which worsened after her treatment was taken off the market.

Elsewhere in the episode, Winston (Anthony Hill) finally acted on his feelings for Jules (Adelaide Kane). Teddy (Kim Raver) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) are back as they try to navigate normalcy after getting together — days after signing their divorce papers.

“A few documents have come in [recently] and I said, ‘Oh, my God.’ Grey’s Anatomy is messed up again. I love it so much,” Raver, 56, said to himself Us Weekly in January.

The actress learned what’s coming up with the other actors.

“We’re all learning what’s going on [during a table read]and I love you.” “Some of us are wearing scrubs, some of us are wearing our street clothes. Then, when we get the information, it is shocking and surprising to all of us. We’re like the audience, and we look at each other like, ‘This is really happening.'”

Raver, who has played Teddy since season 6, promised “a lot of fun” Grey’s Anatomy storylines – and revealed whether he has any concerns about his character’s fate.

“That’s the life of an actor,” he remarked. “It’s really about trying to be there and doing the work and following the amazing stories that the writers are giving. Especially now that we always have these amazing mountains. Nobody knows.”

Raver promised that audiences will be “treated” next time, adding, “There’s a cliffhanger, so I think that’s going to be really surprising. … I love being able to go on a daily basis and being able to tell these stories from a director’s point of view. Each storyline leaves us with that Grey’s Anatomy kind of cry and you laugh out loud where you guys are crying. The shenanigans they keep going on. It’s a really fun episode.”

Raver continued: “I feel like every time I direct a new episode of Grey’s there’s a lot going on [I learn] because there is a different format or a different way to shoot it. But I think maybe my confidence in how I want to tell the story and where I want to put the cameras [has gotten better]. TV moves so fast, so I feel like the more I do, the more comfortable I am with the speed you need to get through it. I’m getting more and more comfortable with its work, which allows me to enjoy the process even more.”

Grey’s Anatomy airs on ABC on Thursdays at 10 pm ET before streaming the next day on Hulu.
