Panicked in Virginia: 5 reasons why concern is rising about Fairfax County schools

Last Friday, shocking news broke that a 19-year-old student who is an illegal immigrant in the United States has been charged with nine counts of assault and battery on girls in a Fairfax County, Virginia high school auditorium.
According to the mother of one of the accused, the accused “walked behind.” [the girls] he put his hand between their legs. It wasn’t just spanking or holding buttocks. It was a groping in the private area. It had been happening for months.”
What is even more shocking is that Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) told the parents of the alleged victims that the suspect will be allowed to return to school once he is released.
ILLEGAL WOMAN RELEASED UNDER BIDEN AGAINST FEMALE STUDENT IN VIRGINIA HIGH SCHOOL
This is the latest scandal for Virginia’s largest school system — a district that has been at the forefront of implementing far-left policies that are more focused on beautifying than educating children.
The results are predictable and frightening: students are put at risk, teachers’ hands are tied, parents are kept in the dark, and the quality of education is steadily declining in a region where academic excellence was once heralded.
Here are five examples of FCPS priorities that are not insanely prioritized:
1. Illegal Immigrants Above Student Safety
FCPS officials pride themselves on the “Policy of Trust,” citing “the climate of fear and stress that would affect all students” if ICE were to detain parents while children are in school. To that end, FCPS Superintendent Michelle Reid has committed to “doing everything we can—to the fullest extent permitted by law—” to make FCPS a safe place for students and families in the country illegally. Law-abiding families are ignored.

The effect of this policy is clear: when the alleged molester is released, FCPS will accept him back into the taxpayer-funded school system while continuing to subject all other students to uncertainty, if not danger.

FCPS said in a statement, “While Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) cannot comment on specific conditions due to federal and state privacy laws, we prioritize the safety of students and staff and fully investigate any time someone reports an incident or says they do not feel safe at school. We are very grateful to our law enforcement partners, who continue to work quickly and diligently at all of our FC schools. The safety and security concerns of FC students are paramount.”
2. Behavioral Policies Based on Race
FCPS approaches student discipline through an “equitable lens” designed to eliminate “discipline disparities” among students of different races. Simply put, this means that if one racial group is disciplined at a higher rate than the number of students, FCPS will reduce the behavior in that group to bring the percentage into alignment, regardless of whether that behavior was appropriate.
This results-based approach to discipline not only contradicts the law but also makes schools less safe. FCPS doesn’t seem to care about any outcome.

3. Boys in Girls’ Lockers and Bathrooms
FCPS mandates that students be allowed to use bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond to the “gender identity” of their choice. A student who refuses to share a bathroom or laundry room with a member of the opposite sex is instructed to comply or use another private area.

The results of this policy are already playing out. Just last year, a boy with facial hair and described as wearing “pants so tight that they clearly exposed his private parts,” began using the girls’ locker room at West Springfield High School, where he watched the girls change in “various stages of undress.”
FCPS investigated the matter and concluded that everything was fine because the boy identified himself as a girl. In fact, FCPS is so committed to this policy – and dismissive of its risks – that it has refused to comply with the US Department of Education’s request to withdraw it, risking millions of taxpayer dollars in federal funding.
4. Keeping Secrets From Parents
FCPS has created a system designed to withhold information from parents when a child wants to “socially transition” to another gender while at school – whether it’s using a different name, different pronouns, or mixed-sex bathrooms and locker rooms. Under the plan, FCPS teachers are ordered not to include information related to a student’s “gender identity” in official records and limit parents’ visibility of their children’s records, making them viewable only by district officials.

The plan may violate the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, which gives parents the right to access their children’s official school records. FCPS may be familiar with this federal law.
This practice is a clear attempt to cut parents off from decisions regarding their children’s health, emotional upbringing, and education. It also contradicts the recent decisions of the Supreme Court in the case of Mahmoud v. Taylor and Mirabelli v. See.
5. Possibly Selling Data to Communist China
It should be clear from the policies detailed above that FCPS appears to be illegally prioritizing students in the country over American students and giving short shrift to parents’ constitutional rights. But FCPS’ “America Last” concept takes things to an entirely different level.

As reported by National Review, the watchdog group Parents Defending Education says FCPS has provided intellectual property to the Chinese Communist Party. According to reports, a non-profit organization associated with Thomas Jefferson High School – FCPS’ top STEM school – received millions of dollars from CCP-linked companies, including one known as the “TJ Fund,” in exchange for information equivalent to China’s plan to replicate Thomas Jefferson High School and its academic success.
An FCPS spokesperson told National Review, “The TJ Fund is a separate and independent 501(c)(3) organization that is not overseen by FCPS.”

The list could go on, but the bottom line is clear: FCPS’s record makes it an unacceptable choice for families who expect their children to be protected.
Parents should avoid this school system if they can, and if they can’t, they should do their best to protect their children from a district that has repeatedly shown it won’t.
