The endorsement of the Human Rights Campaign raises questions for authorized individuals

The endorsement from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), an LGBTQ+ advocacy group, raises questions about whether the candidates share the same beliefs as the organization – conditions that could be exacerbated given efforts to paint a moderate image.

These recommendations highlight the struggles candidates face in managing their associations – especially on controversial topics and areas.

Among their positions, HRC has a few that have placed it firmly in the progressive camp.

The organization has supported sex-affirming care for children in the form of contraceptives and hormone therapy. It has also opposed state restrictions on its use and promoted elementary school lessons about gender identity, resisted efforts to limit Critical Race Theory and advocated for the removal of police from schools.

“Our mission is to ensure that all LGBTQ+ people, especially those of us who are trans, people of color and HIV+, are treated as full and equal citizens within our organization, nationally and internationally,” the organization said on its website.

The organization has spoken out strongly against almost all LGBTQ+ restrictions.

In one such case, after the Supreme Court ruled that parents have the right to exclude their children from LGBTQ+ classes and courses, the HRC overturned the decision.

“This decision upends the beliefs of some parents, who believe that being LGBTQ+ is wrong, more than any acknowledgment in the classroom that young LGBTQ+ people are with their families,” the organization said in a statement.

In 2026, the organization endorsed 11 Democratic incumbents and 18 incumbents in battleground states.

Among them, HRC allowed members like Rep. Josh Riley, DN.Y., Derek Tran, D-Calif., and Greg Landsman, D-Ohio, — all won their races by less than five points.

Those members did not respond to Fox News Digital’s requests for comment about whether they stood by HRC’s positions.

Midway through the goals, HRC positioned their success as key to taking pressure off the LGBTQ+ community from the Trump administration.

“Our community is facing an attack on our rights and it’s coming from a majority of Congress that bows to Trump and his MAGA supporters. They are trying to take away our freedoms and put us back in the closet while doing nothing to meet the urgent needs of the American people,” said the group’s president, Kelley Robinson, in a statement.

In the past, some of the HRC-endorsed candidates have included their gratitude as a matter of shared interest in the fight against racism.

That way Rep. Tom Suozzi, DN.Y., endorsed his endorsement in the 2023 special election.

“I am very grateful for the support and endorsement of the Human Rights Campaign. This will be a tough race, and the support of HRC, which has been dedicated to anti-racism research, advocacy and education for over 40 years, means a lot to me,” said Suozzi.

The HRC renewed its endorsement of Suozzi in mid-2026.

The organization did not immediately respond to questions about what factors go into its endorsement process or whether it asks candidates for permission before publicly endorsing them.
