Real talk
TBH it’s been hard for me to write lately. The short version is that the blog site has become very difficult… I will share more in future posts. For now, I’m trying to enjoy the 90s summer with the girls (swimming, roller skating, time with friends, going to the mall) and reminiscing about our AMAZING trips to Japan and Korea.
We had such a delicious meal that I still think about every day, and I wanted to share some of the highlights in today’s post.

7-11
We had 7-11 every day.

It’s funny because 7-11s in the US leave…a lot to be desired… but 7-11s in Japan are full of amazing food, desserts, snacks and drinks. Sushi, onigiri, pasta, fried chicken, sandwiches, smoothies, everything was amazing. Of course, I enjoyed fermented drinks (C1000 is the best), lots of tuna onigiri, and everything flavored with muscat.

(if you go, get these!! And send me some lol)
We fell in love with muscat and of course stocked up on all the frozen muscat treats, gummies, and mints.
We all had a lot of onigiri 🙂 Tuna and mayo was the best!

Tsujiki fish market
The fish market is filled with hundreds of food stalls and street vendors. The sashimi is the best I have ever had in my entire life. We also had a bowl of muscat grapes (sweet and crunchy) and I saw people leaving with boats, crab legs, omelets, caramelized sweet potatoes, and sushi rolls.

We also stumbled upon a hidden gem that had gluten-free souffle cakes.

They were sweet and light, and somehow not eggs at all. We wanted to go back but we just didn’t have time.
Omakase Meal at Kushiage Sû Gluten Free
This dish was the first of five cooking experiences for me. I went to book a table in advance while looking for gluten free dinner options, but it was booked out. I sent a message on IG asking for consideration if there were any last minute cancellations, and they reached out the day before to let us know that spots were available!

There were only seven seats in the restaurant, and everything was made fresh in-house by chef Sû.
I started with a clear and delicious glass of sparkling sake.

Everything is gluten free and kushiage consists of skewers. It is a famous Japanese food and everything is covered in Panko bread crumbs and fried. Each flavor profile was completely different, using different meats, vegetables, fish, and seasonal ingredients. This sounded like a special treat to P and I, because we usually can’t eat fried or hot things because of… gluten.
Even though the skewers were fried, they were light, crisp, low-fat, and incredibly flavorful.
Other highlights:
This is beef tendon wrapped inside fried tofu in dashi broth

Mackerel marinated in plum vinegar and sabayon sauce

Gluten-free crab cream croquet

The meal is finished with homemade apple ginger warabi mochi

Chef Sû is truly an artist and incredibly talented. He doesn’t speak English, but we used google translate with no problems at all. I highly recommend this experience if you are going to Tokyo and have gluten free friends or family members.
Ginza Senryo
We went for late night sushi one evening and shared plates of rolls, sashimi, salad, pickled vegetables, and the best potato salad I’ve ever had. I had another brilliant reason just to try different options, you know? It’s worth mentioning here that all the waiters we encountered were very pleasant; The service was above and beyond, but especially in this restaurant. The server was bent over talking to the girls and was pleasant and friendly.

So tell me friend: what are some of your all-time favorite holiday meals?
Some of my top foods are:
– Alinea in Chicago
– Beach club in Mykonos
– Zucchini pasta in Sorrento
– Taco instructor in Mexico with Mexican coke
