The Most Shocking Death in Years

I Love Island the franchise has mourned the death of some of the island’s most beloved residents over the years.

Love Island, which premiered in the UK in 2002, follows a different group of singles each season who move in pairs to live in the show’s luxury house. The franchise has since expanded worldwide, with spinoffs such as Love Island USA.

The contestants – called Islanders – live alone in the villa and are under constant video surveillance. They must be paired to stay on the show and have a chance to win the $100,000 prize.

Despite the success that has come and been seen in this program in the past years, but being in the public eye has been difficult for some to resist the weather. Caroline Flack to handle Love Island UK from 2015 to 2019. He died by suicide in 2020 at the age of 40.

The executive producer died while the show’s eighth season was being filmed in Fiji.

The network released a statement after Barker’s death in June 2026, which read, “ITV America and Peacock will pay tribute on Tuesday’s episode to Love Island USA executive producer James Barker, who died last week in Fiji after an unexpected emergency.”

The statement continued: “James’ unimaginable loss was felt not only by the entire Love Island team in the USA, but across ITV and Peacock. He was a much loved and valued member of our close-knit family, whose compassion, talent and dedication left an indelible mark on all of us and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.”

Paul Danan

After appearing on two seasons of Celebrity Love Island in 2005, Paul died at the age of 46 from a combination of heroin, methadone, codeine, pregabalin, cocaine and zopiclone poisoning. Benzodiazepine use also played a role, according to a coroner’s report in January 2025.

I Love Island The owner of the house was found dead in his East London home in February 2020, it was later confirmed that he committed suicide. A few weeks before her death, Caroline was said to have had an argument with her boyfriend Lewis Burton and authorities were moving forward with an assault case before his death.

Caroline’s family shared an unpublished Instagram message from the former presenter on the day she was found dead. In the message, published by the New York Times, Flack “accounted for what happened” the night he was arrested and insisted he was “NOT a domestic abuser.”

“I’ve said everything I can say about this tragedy and I don’t want words to be misunderstood and I need to take care of my mental health. This was to keep the letters I had with him. I really hoped he was somewhere nice,” the document noted. “I never knew the severity of his problems and what was going to happen. The last message from me was a heart of love. I would like to think that wherever he is now, he is at peace and somewhere as lovely as I wished.”

Caroline’s brother Paul died six years later by suicide.

Sophie Gradon

Sophie was a contestant on the second series of the Love Island. He died in 2018 at the age of 32 by suicide. Less than a month later, Sophie’s boyfriend died Aaron Armstrong and died by suicide.
