Finn of Dutton Ranch, Natalie Defend Carter, Oreana Age Gap

Dutton Ranch‘s Finn Little again Natalie Alyn Lind explores how Carter and Oreana’s age gap has affected their romance so far.
“Oreana has been more experienced in the dating scene. This is Carter’s first love, she’s falling head over heels for the first time,” Little, 20, said to herself. Us Weekly during the joint interview. “I’m not sure if that’s what Oreana expected but that’s what happened.”
Lind, 26, meanwhile, defended her character.
“He’s the type where his childhood feels like it’s been taken away from him,” commented the actor. “He’s always been put in a box and told where he should go to college or what he should do. Being with Carter has brought him back to his youth and there’s something funny and magical about that.”
Oreana is 24 while Carter is 19, and they share a dynamic that she previously described as mirroring Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) in between Yellowstone.
Lind continued: “She feels like a child when she’s around him but she also acts like a child. I think Carter’s character is more mature than Orena a lot of the time and has a better head. But she has an underlying strength. So it’s funny to see a technically mature character acting like a child with an 80-year-old actor—who is 80 years old—acting like an 80-year-old.”

Yellowstone viewers watched Carter grow up on the Paramount Network show. When the franchise expanded by The Dutton RanchCarter was back but this time he’s a high school student getting ready to be an adult. Carter’s first relationship has crashed and burned until now after Oreana backed out in the latest episode of the show.
“There was an incident we were dealing with [Oreana’s dad] that is not there. Obviously I think it was made for a season arc and it makes sense that it was. It just leaves some things to be explained,” Lind teased about getting more insight into her character. “But I think being raised with only her father – not her mother – led to her dad Rob-Will always being the one to say yes to her.”
Oreana’s growth eventually led to rebellion, Lind added, “She loves her father and it’s a toxic relationship that I think a lot of women get into. She’s drawn to that poison. In every direction of her life, she’s pulled by this toxic force, which is probably why she pushes Carter away when she’s hopeful.”
As a result, Oreana and Carter are separated – for now.
“It was coming. It’s probably better to have it happen sooner rather than later and have everything built up,” Little said before Lind added, “The best things in life you have to work for. It’s that feeling when you’re given everything you want and everything you’ve worked for and you’re rebelling.”
He added: “That’s what happens in this situation. But a true love story doesn’t come without obstacles. You don’t just fall in love naturally. That’s a love story – no matter how old you are.”
The Dutton Ranch airs Friday on Paramount+.
