The co-hosts of “The View” praised Joy Behar on Friday for being a polite host to Vice President JD Vance during an appearance on the daytime talk show Tuesday, and argued that she was simply following the example of the late Barbara Walters.
“It’s like JD. He was there the other day,” Behar said as the panel looked back on the interview with Vance. “I respect the office. I believe in reaching across the aisle. I do.”
After a while, co-star Sunny Hostin asked, “But I want to know, why did you like JD Vance so much?”
“I didn’t like him. I don’t like him, and I don’t like this administration,” Behar replied.

At a press conference Wednesday, Vance cast doubt on his abilities in “hostile, big negotiations” with Iran, joking that his appearance on “The View” was all the proof anyone needed.
“I can point those naysayers to the fact that just two days ago, I spent over an hour on ‘The View,’ so I’m well-versed in hostile conversations,” he laughed. “Look, Joy Behar is stronger than the Iranians, and she and I are good friends now.”
A clip from that time was played on “The View” on Friday, drawing laughter from the audience and co-hosts, as co-host Sunny Hostin asked, “What!? That was harder to deal with than the Iranian government?”
“You’re funny, I think,” Behar replied, as host Ana Navarro responded and wished Behar could be the one to negotiate with the Iranian government.

“He came prepared to finish us off in style. He came in relaxed and had an easy laugh and was very nice,” Navarro said of Vance. “It worked for you. It didn’t work for me,” he said to Behar.
“It didn’t work for me either,” Hostin added.
“It didn’t work” for me,” Behar said, sounding annoyed that he was being accused of cheating. “It didn’t. I respect the office. I am a civilized person, when someone comes to my program, I treat them like a person.”
“Barbara Walters said that,” Hostin agreed.
“I studied under Barbara Walters,” Behar said, as she and Hostin talked about the late creator and founder of “The View.”
Hostin recalled that when he first joined the show as a host years ago, Walters advised, “If someone comes to your house, treat them well. He told me that.”

While some of his allies questioned Vance’s political changes over the years, Behar defended him, “You know what? I believe people can be redeemed. I remember when he wrote ‘Hillbilly Elegy.’ He grew up suffering. It was a really good book. He was not the person he is now. I agree with that, maybe you will come back to that. Who knows? I can only hope!”

Behar confirmed that he told Vance during recess on Tuesday that he had a good “Republican” vibe and suggested that he should run for president.
