Bridgerton Recast Concerns Explained After Book Changes On Display Screen
Bridgerton went through some screenplays and book changes, causing some fans to worry that many of the main characters will look different in future seasons of the hit Netflix series.
Based on Julia QuinnA series of books, the Regency series follows different members of a wealthy family as they each search for love in 19th century London. With long filming schedules creating years between seasons, some fans expressed concern that Fulton might be replaced by Phillip after his departure from season 2. There were also questions about whether Bridgerton’s younger sibling Hyacinth (Florence Hunt) and Gregory (Is Tilston) will be played by other actors even though they are children.

Quinn broke his silence in February 2026 with possible changes in the coming seasons.
“I don’t really know how they’re going to spin it or how they’re going to write it or what they’re going to keep and how they’re going to change it,” Quinn said alone. Us Weekly when we teased the upcoming season of Eloise.
Quinn also measured the seasons of Hyacinth and Gregory.
“It’s funny because they were 12 and 13 when they started. If you ask me that at the time. [about the same actors playing them as adults]I’ll be like, ‘I don’t know.’ But when I saw them again at the premiere, they were both drinking wine,” she told us. “They’re both 18 now and Will was there with his girlfriend.”
The writer revealed that there are still a few years left before Its In His Kiss and On the Way to the Wedding will air their seasons.
“[Showrunner] Jess [Brownell] he said the next two seasons will be either Eloise then Francesca or Francesca then Eloise, which makes sense. It takes a few years to make a movie, so by the time we get to Hyacinth and Gregory, the characters will be in their late 20s,” Quinn explained. “So I think it’s probably going to be okay. Is it weird that we knew them when they were 12? We see child stars growing up all the time.”
He continued: “As a writer, it was hard to write those two books at first. I really had to let them grow a little bit in my mind and that was hard for both of them. I was really happy that it took several years—but still—I don’t remember how long it took to write. I really had to let them grow. It was hard.”
Brownell, on the other hand, confirmed that Eloise’s romantic future will not change. “I think we’re interested in honoring the love interest from Eloise’s book. I can tell, she doesn’t end up with Theo. She ends up being interesting in her book,” he told Swoon.
The runner also shut down some potential reuses – like Daphne and Simon. “We’re not interested in recasting the cast,” Brownell told Variety in February 2026. “I think it would feel disrespectful to everything that Regé and Phoebe set up in season 1, and all the great work they did for those characters.”
