Almost four years later, Rhett and Akins announced via Instagram in August 2025 that they were expecting their fifth child. In the accompanying video, Rhett sang his 2017 hit “Life Changes” with a dramatic twist on the lyrics about fatherhood.
“Well, I was wrapping my head around being a father. A big wrench was thrown in the plans we thought we had. Now Lauren showing up – got one on the way. That’s -,” Rhett sang before pausing briefly as Akins held up five fingers, “five out of 10. Well, what can I say? Yes, life changes. Yes, life changes. “Yes, you wake up the same.
Akins then showed the sonogram, laughing as he looked at Rhett.
“There they are!” the pair captioned the post. “We have really happy big sisters in our house. God is very good.”
Before the announcement, Rhett revealed that he and Akins may be done having children, and they will be together in 2024. Us Weekly Covering the story of “they were both really happy with the four of them.”
“Lillie is starting school, so we were like noisy little kids saying, ‘What are we going to do with 8 hours a day, three days a week?'” he said. Us at that time. “But it won’t be scary if it’s five [came along] in the next three or four years.”
Rhett also reflected on his own experiences as a parent, revealing that he wished he could tell his ex to “let him know” when he first became a father.
“It is easy to wish for difficult years. [Lauren] you call it the ‘wiping age’ – wiping the tears, wiping the floor, wiping the butt, all that. I’ve been a father long enough to know how fast it goes,” he explained, “One day my problems with my children will be much different than not wanting to eat broccoli. I’m learning to live in these times.”
With a busy career and a large family, Rhett has a lot to juggle when it comes to work-life balance. Ultimately, she hopes to set a good example for her children.
No parent wants to hear, ‘Why do you have to go?’ I had to learn to reframe my response, so instead of saying, ‘I know, baby, I really don’t want to go,’ I say, ‘I don’t have to. I’m successful because I’m lucky enough to do what I love with my job,” he said Us. “I want them to know that it is possible to do what you love for a living.”
