Jessica Simpson Defends Flying 1st Class with Kids in Coach

Jessica Simpson set the record straight by seating her children in coach while enjoying a first class flight to Hawaii.

“My mom bought those tickets,” Simpson, 45, told photographers on Wednesday, May 20. Page Sixnoting that he did not choose a place to live. “It was great for my mother that we went to Hawaii.”

Paparazzi then asked the singer if she would live with her children – Maxwell, 14, Ace, 12, and Birdie, 7, who live with her husband Eric Johnson – if he bought the tickets himself. “That’s right!” he answered.

Simpson’s revelation comes after her ex-husband, Nick Lacheyshared that he met her on a plane during an episode of Watch What Happens Live.

“I believe her children and her – I don’t know where they are, but – her husband, maybe, was on the plane but he wasn’t,” said Lachey, 52, noting that her mother, Tina Ann Drewhe was also on the plane.

Host Andy Cohen then asked if all his children were on the plane, but “in a different phase of service,” Lachey confirmed.

Of their first entry in 20 years, Lachey said it was “amazingly good.”

“You know, it’s been 20 years, so we hadn’t seen each other in those 20 years and then we spent six and a half hours on the road to Hawaii together,” he recalled. “When I say ‘dismissed,’ [I mean] in the same place. Everyone was very kind, very respectful.” Lachey added, “It was true … it was right.”

Lachey was flying with his wife, Vanessa Lacheyand their three children: Camden, 13, Brooklyn, 11, and Phoenix, 9.

Fans were quick to share their thoughts on Simpson not hanging out with his little ones in the comments section. “Andy is so dirty ~ pointing at the coach seats 🤣,” wrote another. A second commented, “Winning Mother’s Day gift.. moms get first class and let dad deal with the kids behind you 👏.” A third fan commented, “It’s good that he put the kids on the coach LOL he deserves a rest.”

Simpson and Lachey met in 1998 and started dating a month later. In February 2002, they got engaged and tied the knot later that year. Lachey and Simpson then starred on MTV’s Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, where they navigated life together for three seasons before confirming their separation in November 2005. Their divorce was finalized in June 2006.

Simpson then found love with Johnson, 46, in 2010. Four years later, they married in California. In January 2025, Simpson confirmed that they had separated.
