Homemade Fudgesicles Recipe (Clean Ingredients)

Growing up in the south, summer days meant swimming in the pool, late nights, and frozen treats. And while you won’t find me reaching for frozen fudgesicles at the local grocery store, these frozen fudge pops are a pretty healthy solution.

I have many popsicle recipes and they are a favorite in our household. Fudgesicles are creamy and rich with their frozen chocolate fudge flavor. I like mine only slightly sweet, but you can adjust the sweetness with raw honey and the type of chocolate used.

Homemade Fudgesicles

Real food tastes better. Like most kids, I was a fan of fudge pops growing up. However, when I switched to whole foods I realized that junk food doesn’t taste good.

Homemade fudgesicles not only taste better, but are easier to pull together and healthier. You can even make several batches at once to freeze for later. My kids love these! And I’ll keep food like this stashed away in the fridge to pull out when the neighborhood kids come over to play (which is almost always!).

Fudge Pop Ingredients

Most of the recipes I’ve seen have used things like prepackaged instant pudding mix. Just read the ingredient list on the back of the box and you’ll see why I prefer to skip that. These fudgesicles instead use real chocolate, both chocolate chips and cocoa powder.

I also used whole milk and full fat coconut milk for that rich, creamy taste. If you want yours even creamier, use coconut cream instead of coconut milk. Whole milk is high in healthy fats for that creamy mouthfeel. However, you can use your favorite non-dairy milk if you need a free version.

Sweet, Sweet Chocolate

Chocolate has some pretty impressive health benefits… when you’re not drowning in sugar. Semi-sweet or dark chocolate both work well in this recipe. Choose a chocolate that you like to eat alone as the flavor really stands out. I really prefer dark chocolate, but you might like something a little sweeter.

For a sweeter version, add honey a little at a time until it reaches your preferred sweetness. One to two tablespoons works well if you want to add honey.

  • Combine the coconut milk, milk, cocoa powder, and sea salt in a small saucepan. Stir until the cocoa is fully incorporated and no lumps remain.

  • Heat over medium heat until the mixture is hot and starts to bubble around the edges. There is no need to boil it.

  • Remove the pan from the heat and add the chopped chocolate. Continue to whisk until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.

  • Taste and add honey if desired, stir until dissolved.

  • Fill the popsicle mold. Allow mixture to cool slightly before pouring into popsicle molds. This helps it to thicken a bit and prevent splitting.

  • Add sticks and freeze until completely firm, about 6 hours or overnight.

To release the fudgicles, use slightly warm water without the mold. Pull the sticks gently and serve immediately.

Shelf Life and Storage

Since they are a frozen food, you will obviously want to keep them in the fridge. They will stay fresh for several weeks if stored in an airtight container. You can even make several batches at once and freeze them for storage.
